MY YODA

My yoda to guide me through my big question would be Robin Williams. He has a lot of money and he was still sad. If I would still be able to talk to him I would ask him how he felt. He commited suicide when his life seemed pretty perfect. Robin seems like a very knowledgable man as well. Maybe he can give me tips to life. I think he would have the answers to a lot of my questions.

A HUG IS NEARLY A GUN SPELLED BACKWARDS

I deeply agree with E.M Forsters view that personal relations are more important than causes or patriotism.  Personal relations are more emotional and involving than patriotism or causes. You can argue that maybe with patriotism many soldiers put their life on the line for this country but really they are doing it because of their family back home. Most personal relations trigger deep emotions and really show people their true side. Personal relations keep people motivated and alive also, it fuels the patriotism in a way.
Patriotism is something that Americans take to the heart but do they really? You see it everywhere in the Pledge of Allegiance or every neighborhood with their flag waving in the wind. I know well enough that what makes this country great is the connections with people. If it weren't for the personal relations, the soldiers fighting might not feel as motivated. Personal motivations show a special kind of intrinsic motivation. It allows  you to fight for those people and the connections you have with them. Patriotism is just a side effect of having those personal relations.
Personal relations are healthy. They allow you to live life with a purpose. You see people come back from war with Shell Shock because they put their life out there for their country. But when they have no one to come back to when it is all over, they think what is the point. Personal relations in a way fuel the patriotism in you. Most people can say they would take a bullet for their family but if it comes to it would you die for your country? Maybe to save your country means saving your family so really your protecting those personal relations.
Another point can be said that personal relations are always going to be there. They will never betray you and always be supportive. This patriotism on the other hand seems like it is always prohibiting you. The nation doesn't always help you , it actually makes it harder for you to be succesful. The nation does offer free college if you join the army but look at the veterans of this nation. You see alot of suicide among veterans and homelessness. So how did this patriotic country helped them. The veterans had no where else to go but to their country.
With all due respect to the hardcore patriots of this country, patriotism is just not the same without those personal relations. I agree with E.M Forsters view and you should to. It would only make sense that personal relations keep you alive and motivate you.

WHEN LOGIC FAILS

My ten favorite logical fallacies.

Ad hominem
He is really overweight and not attractive so do his opinions on child obesity even matter?

 Ad populum
The famous politician said "We should hand out money. Who here woudn't like free money?"

Ad antiquitatem
Citizens should have the access to weapons like they always have had.

Straw Man
Many people agree with  the fact that we need to create a 15 foot high fence on Canada's border

Slippery Slope
Every parent is scared that if there child is even 5 feet around drugs, their child will start doing them.

Genetic
Alot of Americans think just because someone wears a burqa they are a terrorist.

Tu quoque
He was judging the other one for his harsh actions when the other came back at him with sonething the harsh avtions he has done.

Special Pleading
When his claims about global warming were debunked he said it would be better to test this in the summer.

Anecdotal
They said global warming didn't exist because there was snow on the ground.

Complex Question
He quickly interjected and said," Why haven't you paid your taxes?"

MISTAKES FOR PRESIDENT

Because of Time- It looks like plenty of things Trump wants to say keep some things the way he likes to the deal with guns

Ad hominem-Both presidents sometimes talk about their controversies instead of the main point.
Trump says Hilary does not have the stamina or looks to be president. He says  it takes more like make deals with nations.

appeal to popularity- Trump calls USA a third word country because we don't have great infrastructure and we are 20 trillion dollars in debt so he uses this to scare us.
Hilary says we need to keep guns out of the hands of everyone and to ensure more people are safe.
Hilary says we need to train more police officers and says this is a big issue. Right now police brutality is a talked about issue and Hilary is appealing to the audience.

The debate was interesting. I definitely don't know much about politics so my opinions are limited on how they handled the questions. I did notice that when they were asked a question, both kind of just talked about themselves or defended themselves which was interesting.

Big Question Revisit

My big question is why do people say money can't buy happiness. I mean I would think when you have all the money you would never be sad but from what I have learned this is not the case. What gives people happiness that money can't buy. I definitely feel like i have experienced this. When I bought my new iPhone I would think I can always be on it and be happy, but that is not the case. It is just another phone and I get bored of it too. I recently saw Narcos and when you would see Pablo Escobar with all the money in the world(and drugs!) , you wold think he could never be sad. Just like in the movie "Scarface", Tony is in his luxurious hot tub but he seems sad and not enjoying what I would imagine be living the life. It seems complicated .

Literature Analysis #1

Shadow of a Bull
1. My novel is about Manolo. He is the son of  famed bullfighter which passed away. Everyone has high expectations for Manolo but Manolo is unsure if he even wants to do this. Manolo trains for his first ever bull fight. when he is confronted about killing the bull as is tradition, he doesn't want to do it. Everyone is shocked ,but he shows them how foolish it is for them to determine his future
2. The theme of the novel is embracing your true self. Manolo always thought he was destined to be a bullfighter like his dad even though he didn't like it. He thought everyone would see him as a coward if he spoke out.
3. The author Maia Wojciechowska I feel lives a very exciting life filled with culture. She seems like the type of gal to wake up a drink some delicious mexican chocolate with some french croissant. She shows alot of appreciation to Spanish culture and knows her stuff about their pride with bullfighting. I feel like Maia watches a lot of different cultures and takes ideas from them. She probably wakes up very happy ready to learn new things. In this excerpt she writes," Then there are the torreristas...Some like the ones who look pretty in their traje de luces..." So this kind of shows her interest and some knowlege abput the spanish culture. This next excerpt "The town of Arcangel has both a soul and heart. Its soul is the bull ring, and its heart is the marketplace." She captures what a town in Spain would look like.
4. Imagery: The way he describes the passion of the bullfighters and how Manolo just doesn't have that passion. Manolo doesn't see it as a glamorous sport as the others see it. He sees other things with greater amazement. This excerpt shows this," As he watched the magic way the man's hands brought torn flesh together, he thought that what the doctor was doing and had done was the most noblest thing a man can do." For others they might think being a bullfighter like Manolo's dad was the most noblest thing. Now of course Manolo thinks his dad is a noble man but he doesnt see the sport as a noble one. He has interests in other places like when the doctor is stitching up an injury on a bullfighter.

I'M READING BIG BROTHER

Orwell compares 2 passages which say the same thing. He shows us how the good one contains 49 words and 60 syllables and the second one contains 38 words and 90 syllables. He says how it's easier to write this way because you're just  connecting long phrases that have already been connected. The words these people use show no emotional meaning which make it look like they don't care about the details of things. In political writing the writer writes as if he is some rebel expressing his private opinions. Political writing has to be made up of euphemisms because the reality is to harsh for some people. The words used are vague and sound less scary. People in politics can't outright agree with things such as "justification of murder from a government" so they'll mask their words with euphemisms.

Bad Words

Bad words are bad because we made them so. When a little kid hears a bad word they don't know anything different. When they say that bad word and we scold them for it , now they know it's a bad word. I think it's a good thing they know what the bad words are because now they know not to say them in the wrong situations. We made these words socially unacceptable. I think these words are essential to us because we need a way to express ourselves. To be able to make a more impact by saying "fuck" than "darn" is good.
