Vocabulary #3

catharsis: The act of releasing a strong emotion.
She seems to have catharsis when they mention her past.
taboo: not acceptable to talk about or do.
Any bad word is huge taboo in front of my parents.
sordid: very bad or dishonest
He has such a sordid attitude that no one can ever trust him.
swindle:to take money or property from someone by using lies or tricks
The damn old man swindled me using a fake check.
frivolous: silly and not serious
Do not bug me with your frivolous problems.
inadvertently: not intended or planned
I had inadvertently thought of the idea of going to Disneyland
incendiary: a person who commits arson
The incendiary forgot to wear a fire retardant gloves and well it did not go well.
jargon: confused unintelligible language
He only spoke jargon with us so he was no use for our investigation.
colloquialism: a word or phrase that is mostly used in informal speech.
His colloquialism made me think he was part of the area.
archaism: an old word or expression that is no longer used
Everyone saw him as pretentious because he used archaic words.
cudgel: a short heavy club
He told me to hit him over the head with a cudgel without knowing what it meant.
egregious: very bad and easily noticed
His hiding spot was egregious so he was no longer an asset to our team.
anesthetize: to give drugs to a patient so that no pain can be felt.
I begged the doctor to anesthetize my pains.
euphonious: having a pleasant sound
The music was euphonious enough for me to buy it.
scrupulous: careful about doing what is honest and morally right
He was a very scrupulous man with everything he did.
perverted: having or showing sexual desires that are considered not normal or acceptable
He always thought perverted thoughts in the worst situations.
superfluous: beyond what is needed
He went superfluous with his science fair project but something tells me his parents helped him.
Saxon: a member of the Germanic people who entered and conquered England in the 5th century.
He tells me how his ancestors were Saxon's and his history.
slovenly: messy or untidy
His room was slovenly cleaned up because the closet was filled to the brim.
Provocation: an action that causes someone to become angry
His provocation worked against the frustrated group of people.
